What You Need to Know

Customs and Immigration

  • First and foremost, you must ensure that you have the correct leave to enter or remain in the UK during your study.

  • You must check your visa start dates, expiry dates, and the validity on your passport.

  • You may be questioned upon arrival in the UK, in which case you will need to be fully informed of your study arrangements.

  • You must ensure that any applications for permission to stay, extensions or switching to a different immigration category be made before the expiry of your current leave to remain.

  • If you remain beyond the expiry of your leave, you will become an overstayer and liable for removal from the UK. This will also affect your future chances of being allowed to return to the UK, and in some cases, you may be faced with a ban.
