What You Need to Know

Visa Extension Options

Following completion of your Bachelor or Master’s degree, you can apply for a 2 year post-study work visa (Graduate Visa) or 3 years if having completed a PhD. This will give you permission to work in the UK for 2 years.

  • During this time if you are able to find an employer that is registered as a sponsor with the Home Office, then provided you have completed your course, you may be able to be sponsored to switch into a skilled worker visa.
  • Following a change in the Immigration rules in Summer 2023, you must have completed your course in order to be eligible to switch into the graduate visa or Skilled worker visa category. Although you may find the studying difficult, it would be in your best interest to finish your course as if you don’t, your visa extension options are limited.
  • It is important to be aware of individuals and organisations offering sponsorship for the payment of large sums of money. This is illegal and you become subject to exploitation as sometimes this could be fraudulent companies who cannot offer you work, or the position doesn’t exist and you will not get your money back.
  • If you are unsure of anything, you should always seek some professional advice before handing over any money.
  • You will need assistance from an immigration specialist who would be able to provide you with legal advice. It would be useful to check the Law Society website to find a regulated solicitor near you.
